“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. And they’re always glad you came.”
Sound familiar? I know, some of you young whippernsappers are probably going uh…huh? For you I have two words. Netflix, baby. You sadly missed out on one of the best sitcoms to ever hit TV in the 80’s and 90’s – Cheers. Set in a bar in Boston, Cheers was truly a place where everyone did know your name. It was an establishment where once you entered those hallowed doors, you were considered part of the Cheers family. For those of you with fond memories of the show, I’m sure good ol’ Norm Peterson comes to mind. He’d enter the bar to a rousing display of all patrons shouting his name in unison as he took his rightful spot on his designated bar stool. Cheers provided an experience, a place where you could go grab a beer while feeling special, appreciated and always in good company. It was your home away from home.

This post is well overdue, friends. Quattro Goomba’s has a Beer Kitchen and is serving up some really delicious food! Yep, that’s right. A Beer Kitchen! My favorite place in our home + my favorite beverage. I can’t really think of anything better. You should totally check it out! I mean, I don’t think you need much more of an endorsement than that, do you? You already know how we love our beer and our food. And when we get the chance to combine the two at one of our favorite breweries in the area, well, you all need to know about it too.

There’s something to be said for visiting a place in those quiet hours before the storm, when final preparations for opening day are taking place. Unloading furniture (some of the most beautiful brewery seating I’ve seen with table seating and lounge areas), preparing to run tap lines (with Hill Farmstead coming to help with draft set-up), sampling beers (beers which by now you all know are out of this world fantastic). It was all going on and then some during our sneak peek of The Veil Brewing Co. a few days before their official grand opening. A huge thank you to both Dave Michelow, co-owner of The Veil, and Lee Graves for hosting and arranging the behind the scenes visit!

Welcome to Part One of our Richmond Beercation! Just let that word sink in a little. Beercation. I’ll get back to it in a bit.
Our trip to Richmond last weekend was full of many firsts for us. It wasn’t our first visit in the River City as we’d spent a weekend in town a few years ago for the Virginia Wine Expo. But it was a first in a lot of ways, some known going in and others completely unexpected. It was our first time using AirBnB, which was such a wonderful experience. I wanted to “live like the locals” on this trip, and the spot we stayed at, a “Gem in the Heart of the Fan”, gave us that experience. I love to explore cities by just walking around and taking everything in, and Jill’s place allowed us to do just that despite the chilly April temps! I mean, who else can say they’ve stayed in a super chic and stylish apartment that was once an old Cadillac dealership or walked along in the Monument 10K on your way to drink beer at 10AM?!
